Vector-borne diseases 

Many infectious diseases are transmitted by so-called vectors, living organisms such as mosquitoes, ticks and flies that carry and spread the pathogens, or agents that cause the disease, especially viruses, bacteria or fungi.  

Vector-borne diseases are also known as zoonoses, diseases that can jump naturally from a non-human animal to humans. Transmission can be direct, through contact, or indirect, through contaminated objects or vectors, which act as a bridge for the infectious agent between the animal and humans. 

How they are transmitted

Passively
Vectors can spread disease by carrying the agent on their body and transmitting it through contact.
Actively
Vectors can hosting microorganisms that are then transmitted through a bite or sting. In the latter case, we speak of arbovirosis.
The Regional Prevention Plan (PRP) sets out the measures to monitor the incidence and prevalence of infectious diseases among the population, to inform the public about the issue and to conduct research on the effectiveness of synthetic and natural insecticides and any resistance developed by vectors.
