Regional Prevention Planning

Prevention requires careful planning to promote and foster personal and community health, by involving both the general public and the authorities.

2021-2025 Regional Prevention Plan (PRP)

The Region of Puglia has transposed the 2020-2025 National Prevention Plan (PNP) adopting  and implementing a specific 2021-2025 Regional Prevention Plan (PRP) (under Regional Council Resolution No. 2198 of 22 December 2021).
The Regional PRP is based on the One Health approach, which recognises the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health and well-being, and consists of ten default (PP) and six custom (PL) programmes covering all public health-related issues. Some programmes focus on community-wide strategies, for promoting well-being and prevention, while others are more individual-focused, aimed at reducing personal and lifestyle risk factors.

The three guiding principles of public health actions are integration, multidisciplinarity and intersectorality. In particular, the aim is to promote functional integration between national, regional and local levels of governance, between issues and between different levels of care, such as primary and secondary prevention, community care and hospital care.

The Plan therefore aims to create a comprehensive system that embraces and values different skills, networking the various levels of government and care to foster more effective public health interventions, closer to the people's needs.

Regional Prevention Communication Plan (PRCP)

The Regional Prevention Communication Plan (PRCP) (approved by Regional Council Resolution No. 1967 of 22 December 2022), is a tool for planning and integrating communication activities, channels and means.
The Region of Puglia has set out the guidelines for prevention communication for all the regional health service facilities, to optimise communication inflows and outflows, and foster and enhance the dissemination of health prevention and promotion pathways

Communication is used as a lever for combating misinformation and inequality and for building a more efficient healthcare system, anchored to the values and principles of transparency, solidarity and equity. The overarching aim is to strengthen a culture of prevention, through the use of transparent and inclusive language that the public can easily understand.

This can be achieved by focusing on health information and education in a reliable, clear and timely manner, as well as by promoting and encouraging the public to participate in the prevention programmes sponsored by the Region. Ultimately, this active involvement can increase responsibility and awareness about adopting more health-conscious habits, behaviours and lifestyle choices, while strengthening a trust-based relationship with healthcare providers.
