Deafness

Deafness is a sensory disability that involves a more or less severe reduction in hearing, first recognized by Law No. 381 of May 26, 1970. In Italy, in all current legislative provisions, the term “sordomuto” has been replaced with the expression “deaf person”, and deafness is now recognized as a specific sensory disability.

Deafness may be congenital or acquired and can occur at different stages of life, influencing language development, communication, and social interaction.
