Environmental risk
Human activity and natural events can damage the environment. In the most extreme cases, they can cause severe disasters, resulting in loss of life, destruction of property and the collapse of economic activities.
An explosion caused by an industrial accident, for example, can contaminate the air and water, causing serious damage to nature and human health, but all this can be avoided by carrying out proper maintenance. In short, through prevention.
The starting point is the definition of environmental risk, based on two aspects: the probability of a harmful event occurring in a specific area and the severity of the consequences for human health, properties and the environment.
Risk management consists of identifying, assessing and controlling these two aspects, by implementing emergency plans and monitoring and preventive measures, in order to minimise their effects.
