Bowel cancer screening

Target:
For women and men aged between 50 and 69

When it comes to your health, catching things early can make all the difference. Bowel cancer screening looks for traces of blood in your stool, which can be an early sign of non-cancerous growths (polyps) or bowel cancer. A simple test carried out in the comfort of your own home is all it takes to spot these changes early.

Puglia Region runs a dedicated bowel screening programme for all men and women aged 50 to 69. Taking part is completely free, quick, and painless.

If you are aged between 50 and 69, you are automatically eligible for the screening programme. Every two years, your local health authority (ASL) will send an invitation letter inviting you to take part in this simple test to check for traces of occult blood. The screening team may also contact you by phone, email, text message, or via the IO app. For further information, please call the regional freephone number 800 957773.

Joining the programme is straightforward. Collect the free home screening kit from any participating pharmacy. Use our interactive health map to locate the pharmacy nearest to you.

Should any follow-up tests be required based on your results, these will also be provided free of charge.
