First thousand days
It’s a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, where the first thousand days of a child’s life – from conception to two years old – are like pieces that gradually fit together to build the future of girls and boys. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, play and relationships are just a few examples of the many moments that can have a big impact on a child’s physical and mental health. These things might seem ordinary, but they’re actually really important for their well-being.
To spread the word, the Region is promoting the health of mothers and newborns, especially during the first thousand days of a child’s life.
It's really important to make sure mums and babies have everything they need by eating right before, during and after pregnancy. If you can, breastfeeding is the best way to feed your baby, because it can significantly reduce the likelihood of your baby developing chronic diseases. It's a good idea to avoid drinking alcohol, smoking and not getting enough sleep. The most important thing is to build a real relationship, without using electronic devices, especially when the kids are really young.
