Environment, climate and health

Our health is closely linked to the health of animals and the environment we live in. This is a fact demonstrated in many scientific studies, which suggest that ongoing climate change could also increase the circulation of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes, flies and rodents in Europe. 

Therefore, human health is part of a much wider whole, and taking care of the environment also means protecting the well-being of communities threatened by pollutants and disease-producing agents like viruses, bacteria and fungi. 

This collaborative approach – now called “One Health” – has been adopted by Puglia Region and put it into practice through tools and processes like eco-sustainable urban planning and monitoring environmental risk and water quality. 

Puglia Cancer Registry
Certain environmental factors can increase the risk of developing cancer.
